The Basics of Understanding Dreams

Dreams are an amazing thing as they are a way for us to be better connected with the universe as well as ourselves. So you shouldn't be on the lookout only for dreams that are prophetic or when a spirit contacts you. While those kinds of dreams are important and should be given attention, dreams where your mind is trying to decipher itself are equally important.

What to do With Average Dreams

While it is more than tempting to be on the lookout only for prophetic dreams or dreams where spirits contact you because they're 'important', you need to resist that urge. This is because all dreams are important and have something to tell us.

Average dreams that many deem unimportant are the subconscious doing its best to understand the world. And, in all honesty, understanding yourself is extremely important to magic as a whole. If you are able to tell what you're feeling you can better understand how to tackle any external problems that arise.

Such as if you don't like someone your dreams could reveal the reason why. You might not actually hate the person but be blaming them of something they have never done.

In some of my dreams I find that my insecurities are put to the forefront. Though the dreams don't announce their meaning and I have to be brave enough to realize the truth. I have to be the one to realize that my dreams are telling me that I am fearing something that shouldn't be feared at all. Heck, I sometimes fear things that don't exist such as my fear that everyone will eventually abandon me.

If you do have a disturbing dream that forces you to look at the dark side of yourself, waking up might not be pleasurable or easy. This is caused by the fact the emotions caused by your dreams might make it hard for you to tell what is real and what isn't.

So whenever you wake up make sure to calm yourself before interacting with anyone. Because punching your significant other for what they did in a dream is not a good thing.
How to Tell if a Dream Means Something More

If you wish to truly take advantage of messages received in dreams, you need to realize when your dreams mean something more. You need to learn to recognize the feelings that tell you that the dream is far from ordinary.

Now there is no guide you can read that will tell you how to tell the difference between a dream and a dream means something more. Various people I've talked to about receiving messages in dreams have all recounted different ways they knew the dream was important.

I naturally know when I'm in a dream so I'm not usually confused about whether or not a dream means something more.

A person I knew could tell he was in a dream by how different his senses were. Such as his sense of smell being more prominent than in the waking world.

So you'll need to develop your own methods. Don't try to force yourself into one method as that won't garner reliable results. Keeping a dream journal will help you better understand your dreams. There is sadly no quick way to be sure when a dream is a vision or a spirit connecting with you.

Why You Shouldn't Rely on Dream Guides for Meaningful Dreams

Now if you're just starting your journey into the vast dreamscape, dream guides are useful. So if you're a beginner, don't worry about using them before you become more comfortable about interpreting your own dreams.

I have found that when a spirit/dream guide contacts me they will use symbolism that I'm used to. This means I just need to spend time thinking over the message to understand it. Sometimes this can take an hour and sometimes days. So if you don't get the message right away, don't stress about it.

When you are contacted by a spirit be aware of what things mean to you. Such as what a beach means will differ from person to person. You could feel that whenever you go to the beach something bad happens afterwards. You might never have been to a beach and so they don't feel as real to you.

You need to be aware of your own personal symbols when decipher your dreams.
